FAQ's
Bed buying is a huge decision that we take very seriously.
Our FAQs are here to answer your questions before making a buying decision.
General
Below are some common questions about our adjustable beds.
What types of adjustable beds do you offer?
We provide a comprehensive range of adjustable beds through our Pure Fusion, Pure Harmony, Australian-Made and Hi-Lo ranges. TGA registered, our adjustable beds are designed to enhance sleep quality by helping ease tension and relieving pain throughout the body.
Are adjustable beds just for medical purposes or can anyone use one?
Adjustable beds are not just for medical use, they’re designed for anyone who values comfort, support, and better sleep quality. While they provide significant benefits for people with health conditions like back pain, arthritis, acid reflux, and circulation issues, they’re also a great option for everyday use.
How does the vibration massage feature contribute to health and well-being?
The vibration massage therapy increases blood flow to the muscles and enhances lymphatic system activity, which can help relieve back pain and alleviate pain associated with arthritis.
Can I adjust each side of the bed independently?
Yes! If you choose a split system, each side can be adjusted separately, allowing you and your partner to find your ideal sleep position without compromise. You can also sync both sides to work together if you'd prefer.
Does your beds come with a mattress, or do I need to buy one separately?
All Adjustable Beds are sold as a bed and base package so there is no need to purchase a mattress separately.
If you would like to purchase the base or mattress separately, please contact our team using this form.
Will the bed fit inside my existing bed frame?
In most cases, yes! The Pure Fusion Adjustable Bed is designed to fit inside standard bed frames, but we recommend checking dimensions to ensure compatibility with your specific setup.
If you're still unsure, reach out to our support team at hello@betterlivingaustralia.com.au
What happens if there's a power outage?
The bed includes a built-in battery backup (requires 2x 9v batteries), ensuring you can return it to a flat position in case of a power outage for added safety and peace of mind.
Will the Hi-Lo Adjustable Massage Bed fit into my existing bed frame?
Unfortunately as the bed raises and lowers, it must be free standing without a bed surround. The bed is on castors so can be freely moved around the room to assist with cleaning etc.
Are adjustable bases strong enough to support me?
Better Living bases have a weight rating for 240 kg and are solid steel construction with a 10yr warranty.
How high and low can my Hi-Lo adjustable bed base go?
The lowest height of the bed will be approximately 45cm from the ground and the highest approximately 100cm. This is easily adjusted with the wireless remote.
Are memory foam mattresses good for adjustable beds?
Memory foam mattresses are a great choice for adjustable beds. The foam is flexible enough to bend as needed to accommodate different angles for the head and feet, and the material also contours evenly for added pain and pressure relief.
Medical
Common questions specific to medical conditions of our customers.
What is the healthiest sleeping position?
Sleeping on your back offers the most health benefits. It protects your spine, and it can also help relieve hip and knee pain. Sleeping on your back uses gravity to keep your body in an even alignment over your spine. This can help reduce any unnecessary pressure on your back or joints.
Can I use an adjustable bed and vibration massage if I have cancer?
If you’re considering an adjustable bed for cancer-related relief, we recommend speaking with your medical professional to ensure it aligns with your specific health needs.
Adjustable beds can be beneficial for individuals undergoing cancer treatment by providing customised support to reduce pressure points, improve circulation, and enhance overall comfort. Elevating the head or legs can help manage symptoms such as swelling, acid reflux, and breathing difficulties.
However, vibration massage should not be used without prior approval from your healthcare professional. While it can improve blood flow and help relieve muscle tension, individuals with certain types of cancer—especially those affecting the bones, blood, or lymphatic system— may have increased sensitivity, and in some cases, massage could be contraindicated.
Can I use an adjustable bed with a pacemaker?
While it is safe to use the adjustable features of our adjustable beds we strongly advise you consult your healthcare provider before using the massage function.
In what ways can adjustable beds improve respiratory issues (snoring & sleep apnea)?
By slightly raising the head, adjustable beds help open airways, which may reduce snoring and alleviate symptoms of sleep apnea, leading to a more restful sleep.
How do adjustable beds help alleviate back pain?
Adjustable beds allow users to find their personal "Zero Gravity" (Fowler position) by raising and lowering the head and foot sections. This position evenly distributes body weight, relieving stress and tension, which can significantly reduce back pain.
Can an adjustable bed help with arthritis and joint pain?
Yes, adjustable beds can ease symptoms of arthritis and joint pain by allowing users to adjust positions to reduce pressure on affected areas, promoting comfort and helping reducing inflammation.
How do adjustable beds assist with acid reflux and heartburn?
Elevating the head of the bed can help prevent stomach acid from traveling up the oesophagus, thereby reducing symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn.
Can adjustable beds reduce swelling in the legs and feet?
Elevating the lower body promotes blood circulation, which can help reduce swelling in the feet and legs.
NDIS
Below are some common questions relevant to those on NDIS. To ensure your information is accurate, consult the NDIS website for more information.
Is Better Living a registered NDIS provider?
Yes, we are a registered provider with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and our beds are registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (ARTG ID: 225564).
How long does it take for NDIS approval?
The approval timeline varies based on the completeness of your documentation. We are advised that the NDIS aims to approve your first plan within 70 days after you become a participant, however it can take longer if you are not prepared.
How do you receive payment once it's approved by the NDIS?
After your plan's approval, your Case Manager will transfer the money for the adjustable bed directly to Better Living Australia. Upon receiving payment we will arrange delivery.
What do I need to qualify for the NDIS?
To qualify for the NDIS you need to have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities. You also need to be aged under 65 when you first apply to access the NDIS and you need to live in Australia and as an Australian citizen or hold a permanent Visa or hold a Protected Special Category Visa. To receive funding for an adjustable bed, it is important that you have Assisted Technology included in your package.
I'm over 65, can I get NDIS?
You must be under 65 to access the NDIS. However, you may be able to access other funding support or assistance through aged care options. Give us a call on 1800 25 38 93 for more information.
Do you deal with self managed funding or only through a plan manager?
We work with both arrangements. Generally you (the customer) will arrange the type that suits you. Normally you will have a case or plan manager who will assist you in the process.
Can Better Living Australia provide me with a quote for an adjustable bed?
Certainly. We can supply a quote that includes details of your Occupational Therapist, Care Provider, or Case Manager. You will need to share this quote with your healthcare professionals. If they require further information, they are welcome to contact us.
Caravan Beds
Common questions relevant to our caravan beds.
How does an adjustable bed work in a Caravan/Boat?
They work in the same way as our in-home beds, only that you are travelling around the country in your caravan!
What is the difference between the caravan mattress to the in-home mattress?
The only difference is the length of the mattress and that is has rounded corners to suit your caravan.
How heavy are the adjustable caravan beds in total / per side?
39.5kg per side- totalling 79kgs overall. Using Steel & Aluminium Frame Design
Where are the motors located in the caravan adjustable bed?
On the underside of the base- which is only 10cm high.
The motors are not built into the mattress, they are free standing units.
How will the adjustable bed be installed when I have a bolster?
The bolster can be removed and the bed installed without the bolster in most cases.
We can look at retaining the bolster but in many cases this is unnecessary.
How much power / watts do I need to run the adjustable bed when using battery power?
We recommend using nothing less than a 600W.
Our founder uses a Powertech 600W 12VDC to 240VAC Modified Sinewave Inverter on their caravan.
How much AMP will the adjustable bed draw when in use?
Massage motors 1.6amp draw at full operation on both beds- 0.8 each side.

All moving and max massage together 14amps.
How will I hold the weight of the adjustable bed if I have under-bed storage?
You will need to upgrade your gas struts on the frame if you wish to have the lifting bed stay elevated while using your storage area. Better Living does not supply gas struts, this is your responsibility.
What does the adjustable bed base sit on?
The base and mattress sit directly onto the steel frame that your mattress sits on.
Will the current struts installed into my caravan be enough to hold up the adjustable bed?
They will lift the bed, but not hold the bed up while you are in the storage area. You will need to upgrade your gas struts on the frame if you wish to have the lifting bed stay elevated while you are using your storage area.
